Excursions on Empires of the Mediterranean with Viking Cruises

I sailed on a 10-day cruise on Viking’s newest ocean ship, the Viking Saturn, on the Empires of the Mediterranean itinerary from Venice to Athens. In this article, I’m sharing only about the excursions throughout this sailing. When comparing the top eight cruise lines, Viking ships spend the most time in port. I typically go on every included excursion offered by Viking. On this cruise, there were eight—one in each port. Viking carefully selects English-speaking, expert guides who know their cities in-depth and are passionate about sharing their cities and history with visitors.

Viking’s excursions include classic sightseeing, but they also offer many behind-the-scenes opportunities for guests to experience local life, see how the working world works, and have privileged access to places that are often difficult to visit.

All excursions were listed in the My Journey document emailed to me when I booked, with the activity levels, length of excursion, and departure times, as some had more than one tour that day. I chose the first tour of each day so I could add a second tour in the afternoon, if available, or have free time to explore on my own afterwards. Shore excursions fill up quickly, so I recommend signing up for them online at MyVikingJourney.com as soon as your booking window opens. These time frames depend on your stateroom category level.
